MOTIVATION IN A WORK PLACE
HOW TO MOTIVATE YOUR WORKERS TO WORK HARDER
“In as much as I believe in the practice of business, I also concur to the idea of neo behaviouralism (i.e. recognizing, respecting and reconciling the presence of human in an organization). As a management consultant, we believe that employees play vital role in the activities of an organization. They’re the blood of an organization and they contributes immensely to the success and failure of an organization. An organization tends to lose resources, capabilities and core competence if there is increased employee turnover (situation where employees leave an organization from time to time).
The word motivation rings a bell in the ears of workforce. It means the urge to satisfy an unsatisfied need. If you’re being provoked to do something, you’re motivated. Those forces that drives one’s interest in achieving set objectives is what term motivation.
As a small business owner, when last did you motivate your employees? Some of our readers might not have employees, but I wish you growth and expansion. If you don’t have employees and you run your business yourself, I’m asking you the same question, when last did you motivate yourself? Think about this for a while…
The word motivation comes in 4 dimensions. We have the POSITIVE, NEGATIVE, EXTRINSIC AND INTRINSIC MOTIVATION.
In positive; an employer will say “Mara, sell 400cases of Pepsi and get 20% salary increase. In negative; an employer will say “Mara, sell 400cases of Pepsi, or get a query. In extrinsic; employees are motivated by means of financial benefits e.g. “Mara, I’ll add #50,000 to your salary.
In intrinsic; employees are motivated by means of self fulfillment, advancement and esteem.
I’ll back this up with theories in my next post. I’ll like you to think of this, who is a customer and who is a consumer? What kind of motivation do you prefer and why?
