Calabar Court of Appeal in Cross River State, has sentenced one Godwin Elewana, a retired staff of NNPC, to death by hanging for the murder of a 22-year old, Douglas Ojugbo, in 2015.
The deceased, Douglas was said to have met his untimely death, as a result of his love affair with Godwin’s daughter, Mercy. According to sources, Godwin was reportedly seen chasing Douglas with his gun, which he fired repeatedly at him, after which he had him buried in a cemetery there in Calabar, May, 2015.
The culprit was arraigned on a one-count charge of murder, which led to his death sentenced in March, 2018 by a High Court.
Unsatisfied with the judgement, he approached the Court of Appeal in Calabar, where Hon Justice Y. Nimpar, in his judgment, supported the High Court decision on Wednesday by sentencing him to death by hanging.
